danville, kentucky. >> both campaigns are holing their own debate watch parties across virginia tonight. the republicans set up their office in arlington to watch paul ryan work in the debate. one of mitt romney's son, ben, stopped by to meet with voters there. democrats gathered at a watch party in fairfax to watch biden's debate performance. this is at one of the campaign call centers where volunteers raise support for their candidate. tonight the phones were mostly quiet while they watched the action in kentucky. now to a developing story in maryland. several families are out of their homes after fire destroyed one townhouse and damaged two others. it happened off cann avenue this afternoon. plumbers were using a porch to join pipes together when the fire started. fire officials say there may have been a delay in calling 911. >> the whole house with all their belongings, with everything that family had in

take a look at the damaged screen, bent blinds. here is another angle. will this is what it looks like from the apartment next door. right now i'm on the ninth floor, eight stories up. you can just see how high it is. move a little to the right and you can see the window. it has a damaged screen. we're hearing there were family members inside at the time. aretha sow ran to help the child. she comforted him on the ground. how did you feel at the time you saw that? >> i felt sorry for the child because he was crying. >> reporter: police removed his clothes, shoes and medics rushed him to children's hospital. we're hearing he has serious headed injuries and a broken femur. detectives will talk to the boys' relatives and meanwhile the community hopes he recovereds. >> he survived that fall. he's a very lucky child. >> reporter: very lucky indeed and blessed. child will protective services is also investigating. we tried reaching the 4-year-old's parents. they were unavailable to comment. live in silver will spring, i'm shomari stone, news4. tonight a business community on capitol hill announced a

$10,000 trust fund for the family of a beaten victim, thomas mazzlin. he was beaten and robbed near eastern market. he's blind in one eye and still unable to walk or feed himself. his wife abby accepted the donation during the announcement of a safety festival next weekend. >> part of a greater community, and this event is not only a reminder that we are a member of this community but it is like a very real visceral experience for us to bond together in a way that we should be doing every day. and it should not take horrible circumstances such as these to kind of inspire that spirit. >> reporter: two of the three suspects arrested in the attack will be in court tomorrow. tonight university of maryland students met with campus security and police to talk about safety concerns there. it comes after three students were robbed at gun point near campus last night. officials walked through the grounds and examined areas students identified as unsafe. in some cases they may install lights or clear away brush to

address concerns. police believe the same man is behind all the recent robberies. leaders from prince george's county got together to make a call for expanded gambling in maryland. 20 elected officials asked voeters to support question 7 in order to increase jobs and money for the county. if voters say yes, a new casino will move into the state likely at national harbor. and table games would be added at all maryland casinos. opponents claim there is no guarantee new jobs at the casinos will go to maryland workers and no law that requires the money to go to education. temperatures are falling fast out there tonight, but that's not even close to how cold it will be tomorrow night. storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer has details. hey,ing doug. >> you've got that right. already out there, 52 degrees, the average low, we're already there. we'll go a lot cooler as we make our way through tonight with a dew point of 31 degrees. as far as the temperatures go,

the giant panda cub nearly a month after its death, the cub's mother is back out for public display. zoo officials say she's slowly returning to normal behavior, no longer cradling toys or using the bamboo nest she built. at this point, her appetite isn't fully returned yet. reported tonight the most stolen item on metro are cell phones. quarterly figures show overall crime at all the stations is down. car thefts down significantly. but robberies, including robberies of cell phones, are up. there were about 750 reported this year compared to 430 back in 2008. the . more ethics questions for a member of the d.c. council. will an independent review found council member jim graham violated his code of conduct while he served on metro's board in twoi 8.

we've seen so far this season. that's saying a lot when you consider that we've been so warm. the summer has been incredibly warm, now moving into fall which has been a little below average over the past couple of weeks. and tomorrow night is going to be one cold night. even tonight it's on the chilly side. out there right now, looking at clear skies, temperatures starting to dip. we're still right around the average low temperature sitting there, average low for this time of year right around 52. we were at 49 early this morning, a high of 63 early this afternoon, with plenty of sunshine. about 5 to 10 degrees below average is where we've been over the past couple of days. two years ago it was 88 degrees on this day. so that goes to show you we can see both very warm temperatures and very cool temperatures in the month of october. this time it's going to be on the cool side. 52 at the airport, winds out of the southwest at 7 miles per hour. that southwesterly wind will help tonight. already 39 in frederick, 45 in

leesburg and right now 45 down toward culpeper. to the west in winchester, 41 degrees and plato at 43. so a lot of cool areas already. that's because we have cloudy skies, rather, not cloudy skies. we're looking at clear skies, lasting through tonight. although i do think clouding will be on the increase as we head into the day tomorrow. we saw a cool day even with plenty of sunshine as high pressure was dominating. that area of high pressure will slide to the south and east tomorrow. here comes another cold front. i think we'll see sunshine but mixed in with clouds from time to time. that cold front sweeping on through will bring even colder air or we'll call cooler air during the day tomorrow and into the day saturday, especially saturday morning. saturday morning is going to be very cold, the coldest mornings. here's tonight's lows, 46 in washington, 37 in frederick, 37 in martinsburg and 37 in winchester. you can knock 5 to 10 degrees off these numbers for tomorrow night's numbers. we're talking some areas could be in the 20s.

remembering your kid's birthday is something that comes naturally to a lot of parents of course. but a woman in kentucky says she'll have no problem remembering her daughter's birthday. she was born this morning in paducah, kentucky. her mother gave birth at 8:09. combining that with today's date, eden's birthday is 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. her mother scheduled the birth that way on purpose. she says baby eden will have a cool story to tell when she grows up. >> but right now s
